Privacy Policy

TravelPad (“we”, “us”) helps you plan road trips. This policy explains what we collect and why. If you have questions, email privacy@travelpad.travel.

What we collect

• Account data — email, password (hashed), profile details you choose (name, tag, interests).
• Trip data — drives, stops, notes, shared links, Convoy posts and comments you create.
• Usage data — privacy-friendly product analytics (Plausible) and server logs needed to run, secure, and improve the service. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site trackers.
• Payment data — if you subscribe to TravelPad Pro, billing is handled by Stripe on the web, or by Apple or Google when you subscribe in the iOS or Android app. We do not store full card numbers.
• Photos — images you upload (for example Convoy posts or check-ins), which may be moderated for safety.

How we use it

• Provide route planning, Scout AI suggestions, sharing, and community features.
• Secure accounts, prevent abuse, and enforce rate limits.
• Send transactional email (verification, password reset, billing).
• Improve TravelPad based on aggregate usage.

Sharing

We use trusted processors such as Google (maps, places, cloud storage), OpenAI (Scout and suggestions), Stripe (payments), and Resend (email). We do not sell your personal information.

The TravelPad apps and features also use these service providers:

• Apple App Store / Google Play — purchase records (handled by them), for in-app subscriptions.
• RevenueCat — a random TravelPad account identifier (not your name or email), purchase receipts and subscription status, to verify in-app subscriptions.
• Apple Push Notification service, Firebase Cloud Messaging, Expo push service — a device push token and the notification text, to deliver notifications you turned on.
• Sentry — crash reports and error details (no email, no message content, approximate locations rounded) and a random account identifier, to find and fix crashes.
• Plausible Analytics — anonymous app events and screen names with the platform and app version; no names, emails, account or device identifiers; you can turn it off in Settings. Used for product statistics.
• Google Maps Platform (Maps, Places, Directions, Static Maps) — map views, place searches and route requests, including locations you enter, for maps, search and routes.
• Open-Meteo — coordinates of places you plan or explore (not linked to your account), for weather and elevation.
• OpenAI — text you submit for suggestions, Scout and moderation (not your email), for AI suggestions and content moderation.

Shared drive links and public Convoy content are visible to anyone with the link or browsing the feed. Do not post anything you want to keep private.

Device permissions

The app asks for your location only while you use it (check-ins and finding drives near you), for your photos and camera only when you add photos to a post, and for notifications only if you turn them on. Each is optional and can be changed in your device settings. Photos are uploaded without their location metadata.

Retention & deletion

We keep account and trip data while your account is active. You can delete your account in the app (Profile → Settings → Delete account) or on the web (Account settings). Your account is deactivated immediately and its data is deleted within 30 days, including drives, trips, posts, photos, comments, messages, follows and check-ins. We keep a record that the deletion happened (without your email address), anonymized billing records needed for tax and fraud prevention, and backups that expire on their own within 30 days. Copies of your drives that other travelers saved stay with them, attributed to “a deleted traveler”. Deleting your account doesn't cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription; cancel it in your device settings. See travelpad.travel/delete-account.

Your choices

• Update profile and interests in the app.
• Stop sharing a drive by keeping the link private (treat share URLs like passwords).
• Opt out of marketing email if we send any (transactional mail still required for the account).
• Turn off anonymous usage statistics: Settings → Share anonymous usage data.
• Turn notifications on or off by type: Settings → Notifications.
• Request a copy of your data: privacy@travelpad.travel.

Children

TravelPad is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date above will change when we do. Continued use means you accept the updated policy.
